How accurate is medical speech recognition?
Both Dragon Medical One and Speech Recognition Cloud achieve clinical-grade accuracy out of the box, with specialised medical vocabularies built in. The majority of clinicians report being up to three times faster than typing within the first few minutes of use.
Is patient data safe? Where is it stored?
Both products are secure, but they take different approaches. Speech Recognition Cloud doesn’t store any patient data, vocabulary, or audio — there’s nothing retained, and nothing used for training. Dragon Medical One stores your personal vocabulary on Australian Azure infrastructure, which is equally secure.
How long does setup actually take?
Speech Recognition Cloud is self-serve and you’ll be dictating within one to two minutes of signing up. Dragon Medical One is also straightforward and self-enrols, but we include a complimentary one-hour training session with every DMO purchase. Optional training is also available at no cost for Speech Recognition Cloud, though most clinicians find it so intuitive they don’t need it.
Do I need a special microphone?
No — both products work with a standard headset or even your laptop’s built-in mic. That said, a quality dedicated microphone genuinely improves accuracy in noisy clinical environments. Browse our USB microphones →
What’s the difference between the mobile apps?
Dragon Medical One’s mobile app turns your phone into a wireless microphone for your PC — you still need to be at your computer. Speech Recognition Cloud’s mobile app is more capable: it can create complete documents directly on your phone and sync them to your PC later, which is genuinely useful if you dictate on the go between consults.
Can I try before I buy?
Yes — we offer 14-day free trials of both products, which is plenty of time to work out which one fits your workflow before you commit. Both products are sold as annual subscriptions: you buy a full year, you’ll be notified before renewal (which is automatic depending on your package), and there are no refunds for partial years — so the free trial is the best way to decide. Do you offer training?
Yes. Training is delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams or TeamViewer and is included with every Dragon Medical One purchase. Optional training is available for Speech Recognition Cloud.
