Quick guide: which one suits you?

A plain-English summary so you don’t have to read every row.

Pick Dragon Professional 16 if…

You need to operate your computer largely without a keyboard or mouse — significant motor impairment, severe RSI, or vision impairment paired with a screen reader. Dragon’s mouse grid and full Windows voice control let you click, navigate menus, switch windows, and run scripted commands by voice alone.

Best when accessibility features matter more than setup speed, and you want a perpetual licence you own forever.

Pick Speech Recognition Cloud Professional if…

You mainly need fast, accurate dictation without the overhead — dyslexia, mild-to-moderate RSI, writing fatigue, or anyone who wants a modern lightweight tool. SRC Pro requires no training, works in every Windows app, and includes evolving AI commands (launch programs, open websites, basic AI tasks).

Best when full Windows voice control would be overkill, and you want to try the free version first before committing.

NDIS funded? Both products are supplied by VRA as an NDIS provider. We can quote against your specific plan, or you can view our NDIS Dragon Pro bundle for a faster path.

Still have questions? — the most common ones are answered just below

Common questions about NDIS & accessibility speech recognition

The questions we hear most often from NDIS participants, plan managers, and people choosing speech recognition for accessibility needs.

Are you an NDIS provider?
Yes — Voice Recognition Australia is an NDIS provider. We supply both Dragon Professional 16 and Speech Recognition Cloud Professional to NDIS participants Australia-wide, and we provide quotes and invoices in the format your plan manager or support coordinator needs. We work with self-managed, plan-managed, and NDIA-managed participants.
How do I get a quote for my NDIS plan?
Two ways. For a custom quote against your specific plan — use the form below or call us on 1300 255 900, and let us know whether you’re self-managed, plan-managed, or NDIA-managed. For a faster path — we have a preset NDIS Dragon Pro bundle that covers software + setup support. View our NDIS Dragon Pro bundle →
Which option is better for my accessibility needs?
It comes down to how much computer control you need by voice. Dragon Professional 16 is the accessibility powerhouse — it gives you full hands-free control of Windows, including a mouse grid, menu navigation, and window switching. That’s the right choice if you can’t reliably use a mouse or keyboard, or if you’re pairing it with a screen reader for vision impairment. Speech Recognition Cloud Professional is the speed-and-ease option — modern cloud dictation, no training required, plus AI commands to launch programs and open websites. That’s usually the better fit for dyslexia, mild-to-moderate RSI, writing fatigue, or anyone who mainly needs to get text onto the screen without the overhead of a heavier tool. SRC also has a free version you can try anytime to see if it works for you. If you’re unsure, contact us — we’ll help you work out which fits your situation.
Is there a free trial or free version?
Speech Recognition Cloud has a free standard product you can use anytime — a great low-risk way to test how it works with your voice and your setup before committing to the Professional subscription. Dragon Professional 16 does not offer a free trial.
Will it work for someone with dyslexia?
Yes — speech recognition is one of the most widely-used assistive technologies for dyslexia. Being able to speak your thoughts and have them appear as text bypasses the spelling and writing difficulties dyslexia causes, while keeping your ideas intact. Both products work well for this purpose. Speech Recognition Cloud Professional is often the easier starting point — no training, works straight away, and you can try the free version first.
Will it help with RSI or hand/wrist pain?
Yes — reducing typing is one of the most effective ways to manage RSI, carpal tunnel, and similar repetitive strain conditions. For mild-to-moderate RSI, SRC Professional covers most needs — you dictate instead of typing in any Windows app. For severe RSI where you also struggle to use a mouse, Dragon Professional 16 adds full PC voice control, including a mouse grid and window navigation, so you can operate the computer hands-free.
Will it work for someone with vision impairment?
Yes — speech recognition is commonly paired with screen readers as part of an accessible computing setup. Dragon Professional 16 is the stronger choice here because of its full voice control of Windows — you can navigate menus, switch windows, and click by voice in combination with your screen reader. SRC Professional handles dictation well but doesn’t replace the mouse. Contact us if you’d like to discuss specific screen reader compatibility for your setup.
What about motor impairment, MND, MS, or cerebral palsy?
For conditions that significantly limit use of a keyboard and mouse, Dragon Professional 16 is generally the right starting point — the mouse grid and full Windows voice control give you a path to operating the computer almost entirely hands-free. The right setup also depends on individual circumstances (speech clarity, fatigue, posture), so we recommend contacting us to talk through your specific situation. We work with occupational therapists and support coordinators on NDIS quotes for these participants regularly.
Do I need a special microphone?
No — both products work with a standard headset or even your laptop’s built-in mic. That said, a quality dedicated microphone improves accuracy, especially in noisier environments. Browse our USB microphones → NDIS participants: a microphone can usually be included in your assistive technology quote.
How accurate is it really? Will it understand me?
Both products achieve high accuracy out of the box — typically 95%+ for clear speech in a quiet environment. Accents (including Australian) are well-supported. SRC Professional requires no voice training and works straight away. Dragon Professional 16 has a brief setup that adapts to your voice over time. If you have a speech difference or condition that affects clarity, accuracy may vary — the free SRC version is a low-risk way to test how it performs for you before committing.
Can a support worker, family member, or therapist help with setup?
Absolutely — and we encourage it. We also offer setup help directly via screen-share if you’d prefer to have us walk you through it, or work with your OT or support coordinator. Once installed, both products are designed to be used independently with minimal ongoing technical involvement.
