Dragon Professional 16 Audio Transcription Demo

To demonstrate the accuracy of Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional, we have run the audio component of Prime Minister Julia Gillards recent light-hearted "End of the world" address to the nation - through an untrained Dragon Professional 12 speech file.
We simply extracted the audio from the video and processed it through Dragon with the auto-punctuation on.

The results are very impressive, especially Given the fact that this is not what Dragon is designed for.
We always advise customers - and will continue to - that Dragon is not transcription software. You can't just run any old recording,  speech or meeting through Dragon and expect these results. It just wont work. 

This demonstration works because:-
1. The audo recording is very high quality that has been professional captured. The environment is quiet and the audio equipment is A grade.
2. The PM is reading from a prepared speech. Theres's no 'um' or 'ahs' so the diction is excellent. Normally when we dictate we are not so on top of our game like the PM.
3. I have processed two other high quality speeches from the PM through this Dragon profile before,  so in effect the voice profile partially trained. But of course the PM has never actually completed Dragon training and enrolment.

Imagine the accuracy if the PM spent 5 minutes training Dragon!
So what does this demonstration tell us about speech recognition. It tells us that Dragon has come a very long way, its very accurate even when untrained, but you still need a high quality audio system such as a NC181VM USB digital noise cancelling microphone or an Olympus digital voice recorder to capture your voice in high quality - just like this video - if you want top results.

So wilth a small amount of training, the right microphone (or voice recorder) and Dragon Professional 12 you can easily exceed the results in this video.
